I think miner that you should go push pull for the coil splits and thre way tele style selector for the pup selection. Then you just have to find one of the many wiring schematics out there that are for Les Paul style. Its essentially the same thing. Then down the road if you want to add to it you can. Make it function first them make it function better..;)

Greg_L wrote: Wed Apr 04, 2018 7:38 pm Yes coil tap and coil split are often interchanged and misused.

Coil tap just takes a signal from earlier in the wingding for less output.
Coil split actually splits a humbucker into either single coil.
I've known there was a difference, but I didn't know the specifics until the Guru laid it all out for me...

Old habits are hard to break, I've called it coil tap since the 80's

That's probably what I'll do Mutt, the 3-way switch I ordered is a LP-ish style...And just like you said, later I could always add those extras...

I can't wait to hear what it's gonna sound like man, this project has really inspired me, I've been writing a shit-load of songs & riffs... :jam:

Don't sweat it, even guitar manufacturers use the terms wrong.

In reality, very very few pickups are "tapped". It just isn't done by pretty much anyone. Splits are always done though.

OK, miner here is what Im'a gonna do...

A traditional PAF set of vintage humbuckers would come in at about 8k for the bridge and 7.6k for the neck. I'm going to drop the ripper twin blade down to about 7.4k and do the bridge at around 8k - 8.2k. That aint hot and it aint cold so hopefully it will be just about right for you..

I've played around with the test pup all day and its got lots of ummph so it can stand going a bit underwound from what we have. If it dont work out we will try again.

Spec will be

White bobbins for both
Four conductor hook up for both
Chrome poles for both
42AWG copper for both
Alnico 2 for both
Wax potted bobbins for both

Nickel baseplate for the humbucker
Forbon baseplate for the ripper.

Both will be counterclockwise wound
Humbucker will have screw coil south up
Ripper will have neck pole south up..

If you arent aware of the Peter Green thing dont worry about it. Its pretty specific..

I will be on them tomorrow hopefully.

I don't think we'll have a do-over Mutt...I'm pretty confident because of the guys here that are using your p'ups say they're great...Plus, I don't think any of those dudes would steer me wrong, matter of fact, I know they wouldn't...

Sounds great to me, but please don't let this project keep you from other things you want/need to do man...I'm really looking forward to using 'em, but there's no hurry on my part...

I can't thank you enough dude & I can't wait to give those p'ups a workout... :jam:

Thanks again Mutt!!!

No problem miner, I am setting more and more time aside to do pups these days. People seem to like em..

Among the normal run of pup stuff I have a couple of sets to do for BillL, some bits and bobs for Bubba and gerg as well so I thought I'd get you ahead of the game..;)

It's all good dude, they get here when they get here...We both know it takes a little time to get across the pond & all the way into the hills where I live...

Go enjoy yourself man, you definitely deserve it, & then some... :minernuggs:

Got a strange looking package in the mail this morning, & was very apprehensive to open it because of nuts mailing bombs to one another, but I rolled the dice...What I found inside is the bomb, a couple of 'em actually, 2, shiny, brand-new custom-made Muttley Pickups...

I didn't expect these to arrive this quick, my pickguard/pots/switches only beat the pickups by one business day, & the p'ups came from across the pond...I haven't even started on this project yet, so I've gotta get my ass in gear...

Thanks Mutt!!!

And being I'm such a newbie on wiring all this up, I have found a couple diagrams, but not 100% sure about it, so I'm asking for help from you guys...

This is probably a dumb-ass question, but here goes... When soldering the p'up ground to the vol pot, do I just solder to the back like a "regular" pot, or to the tab circled or does that even matter, as long as the ground is soldered to the pot's case??? Here's a pic of the pots I have...
