Most importantly a Pedigree Signature Range can only be designed and credited by the good people at "The Recording Rebels"

Recording Rebel Members can order up the Pedigree Signature Range at 50% discount over other lesser mortals and get the added bonus of a hot line directly to Mutt for help and support.

****************************************************************************

The first pickup in Mutts Dog House to be awarded Pedigree status is the

"Gerg G90".

Originally designed by the infamous Greg_L the G90 has it's roots in a slightly under wound but as close to vintage P90 as possible. I'll let gerg describe some of the key requirements in his own words.
Not too hot. Mushy is my enemy.
This will mostly be played through roaring Marshalls
One thing...this soapbar will see very loud live action and live loud recording action
After some exchange of PM's we came up with this recipe...

Nickle baseplate.
Forbon handmade bobbin
42 AWG wire.
Wound to around 7.5K
Alnico V
Braided pull back wire
Counter clockwise wound south up polarity.
Nickel Fillister head slugs
Lightly potted.
Oh, and a black cover.

The wind pattern and potting are where its at as well as Mutt's special handmade forbon bobbins that give Mutt90 the edge over the competition. Its in the detail..

The making of this special Pickup is described in this thread along with the install and firing her up..

Here is what Gerg had to say about the G90.
So how does it sound? It sounds fantastic. Truly amazing. And that aint just confirmation bias. I've spent enough time with my old P90 to immediately have been blown away with the Mutt90. The highs are clearer but not harsh. The mids seem to punch better without being muddy. The low end is tight and controlled. Very good pickup. The modest output definitely suits my style and sound. You've done very well Mutt. Thank you. :like: :coolstorybro:
The G90 Role of Honour so far includes;

Gerg,The main man
WhiskeyJack, one of our noble leaders and admin extraordinaire.
Mutt himself who now has 2 in his custom Mutt Les Paul.

Tone clips and Full mix examples.

With kind regards and thanks to Teh Gerg for his excellent cover of "Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers - One Track Mind"

Left Rhythm .mp3

To follow....

I hope in the next few days to put up a video of the creation of this masterpiece of a pickup from Concept to completion which will feature its manufacture, install, with a soundtrack of the pickup itself.

A big thank you to gerg and the rest of the gang for helping get Mutt*Pups out there and should you or any one you know be interested in getting their hands on this pickup or any other of Mutts creations you know where to find me...

Excellent.
The range of sound samples places this in the full disclosure category.

I'm truly thrilled, flattered, and humbled that I get to be on the ground floor of Mutt's budding pickup business. And I'm happy to help in any way I can.

And of course, having a fucking signature pickup is not a bad thing! :D

This is what changed my vote from the B90 to the G90. I was hovering over the B90 for my vote as it was sort of the first one built under this roof and i felt it sort of should have been the top vote based off that. The G90 had a bit more of a library and sound foundation any one person could come to this site and hear multiple sounds samples of.

The G90 is still a great pick up. Exemplary if anything. I think the set of muttpups i have waiting to be installed are essentially G90's but with some of Mutts wizardry thrown in to make them run as a single humbucker when both are used the middle switch postion.

.....further proof that as a lefty, i will continue to fuck up good things like a solid G90. :happytrees: :coolstorybro:

Thats why I listed you on the "Role of Honour"... :coolstorybro:

...and yes, by winding a pair of single coil pickups in reverse direction and with opposite polarities you effectively have a single humbucker when you use the two together.. Thats what you have. You can also do things like wiring them up in series or paralell to achieve certain sounds together. You have the most useful option. On my MuttCustom that I have these G90's in I wired it up that way. The middle position is now a humbucker and useful for some vamping stuff I have to do behind singers etc..

Haha, to he fair my PRS pickups sound pretty good and are a good compliment to a humbucker. They're the only P90s I've ever had though so I have nothing to compare them to.
