That's really good, Armistice. You do have some odd quirks to your playing style

Ta. I think it comes of years of acoustic guitaring and open tunings.

Very interesting video David. Sounds like a good start to a new song as well.
I occasionally use the archives but more often pilfer from Utub and cut things into small snippets. Oddly a video I did almost a decade ago has been tagged with a copyright infringement for news footage of Vietnam.
Cheers

Yeah, I think you're the first one who mentioned it to me.

JD, I wasn't the one recommending DaVinci. I use Movie Studio Platinum (which, I can't actually recommend per se)

Da Vinci seems pretty good, mate. Its not very intuitive at first though and takes some getting used to:

Nice. I like the i5 better for the cleans but everything else the 57 takes it. Nice sounds all around. I never realized how thin that guitar is.

The i5 sounds really scooped to me on the hi-gain sounds, whereas the SM57 sounds more "electric guitary" to me. The two together sound pretty good.

Thin? As in its width? It think it's the same as a normal Tele. The difference in colour between the top and the body makes it look thinner maybe.

I'm surprised you guys like the 57, I've pretty much given up using it since I got the i5. I did like it double tracked with the i5 though, I think I'll start doing that more often from now on.

I like the 57 too. I like i5s a lot. But in your clips, I think Bubba is right - the 57 sounds more "guitary". It's filled out more and less scooped. I know you metal guys hate mids though so that's why you like the i5 better. :cuckoo:

Ah well, like I said in the clip, I think the 57 has a kind of harsh mid thing that I find a bit grating/nasal! Oh well. When I first got the i5 I immediately felt like it was the sound I was after.

Was chatting to bubba earlier though, I'm definitely going to start double tracking with the 57 and use the PRS less. Basically, change mic instead of changing guitar.

I was actually quite surprised by how different they were listening to them back to back like that. Even when listening to them in Reaper I didn't notice them being that different 'cos I find that once you either stopped and muted one and listened to the other momentarily listened to them both before muting the other your "tonal memory" loses track of them and you don't see so much of a difference. I found listening to them like this made it far more obvious!

I have five "cab mics" that I use regularly or in combinations. They're all very different.

I've only got 4 mics! Two of them are condensers.
C1000S is my acoustic guitar mic.
Generic focusrite condenser for vocals.
The i5 and 57.

Oh, if you can suggest a mic you think might benefit me I'd be glad to hear it! You know my sound better than anyone. Don't think I can stretch to a 421 - they're about 300 quid I think.

What you neeeeeeeeeed is another speaker. You want some variety? Changing guitars and mics is nice and all, but a speaker makes a massive difference.

The only other speaker I have is a Celestion Rocket 50! I'm fucked if I'm putting that on a recording.

I've actually just looked on eBay. They're not quite as worthless as I thought! going for about 20 quid so worth selling. 16 Ohm Greenbacks or 12-75s only seem to be about 80 quid too.

Whatever you get, just make sure you get the right ohm rating.

Looks like you maybe have two 16 ohm speakers wired for 8 ohms?

Okay so you have two 16 ohm speakers in there. That's what you'd need to get if you replace one of them.

Two 16 ohm wired in parallel = 8 ohm mono
