JD01 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 20, 2018 5:40 pm Greg, I enjoyed that so much I had to have a play with it myself. Emulated unfortunately so the baseline tone is a bit boxy, but you get the idea.

I've been fiddling with the EQ to get it to sound as similar to the OCD as I could and its not done too bad,
These sound surprisingly similar Jdude, I think with a little more tweaking you could make the eq sound identical to the OCD...

On the noise, I've came to believe certain pedals are just noisy with certain rigs...The Real Tube I have is noisy here, but I ran it through my nephew's amp/cab during a practice for the 4th gig & it wasn't as bad...Go figure...

Jdude, if you've got a bunch of cheap pedals you don't use, then by all means, sell 'em to make room & $$$ for more if that's what you want to do...But, don't sell anything you like in order to get something else you want, just keep saving until you can get it...

Don't get rid of it though. One day you might play live, and an EQ in the loop can act like a poor man's lead channel for your shreddy phrygians.
True - when I'm doing my Michael Angelo Batio impression it might come in handy.

I've got an SD-1, DS-1, Tremolo, OCD Clone, delay, worst flanger in the world and a couple of others I can't remember to get rid of before the EQ.

This...Keep the gear you like man, you can always save up for whatever you want, but don't sell the gear you truly like...

These sound pretty good to me Greg...I'm really surprised with the EP man, although I do like the way the SD-1 tightens things up, the EP is a totally different animal, & I can see why you like it so much, it's basically part of the amp...Pretty cool...
Yeah that's a good description. The EP does it's thing without getting in the way. I love that. My pet peeve with all OD pedals is that they put too much of their own fingerprint on the sound. I don't want that and that's why my ODs pretty much never get used. I can use this EP thing.
I get it man, I like the fact that it's so transparent, but, I still like how most od pedals leave their print on sounds too, just depends on what pedal/amp & what I'm after...

Since you like the EP so much is a win/win in my book...

I've thought about getting one of those long ago, but I'm not sure it'd get much, if any use here...The reasoning behind that is the Chupa doesn't really need any help at all, but if/when I boost the Mini Jubilee, I do it so that it does tighten up the sound & leaves it's own thing, that's the whole reason for me to boost that amp...

Without knowing what the delay & flanger really are, I'd keep the SD-1, maybe keep the DS-1, & sell the rest...The SD-1 is a staple in rock guitar tone dude, it's right up there with the TS...

I could tell the instant I tried my mini TS that I wouldn't use it much, but, it's there if I ever wanna use it...

I've never used the DS-1, but a lot of the 80's cock rockers swore by 'em back in the day...Not sure if it fits into the TS/SD-1 slot though, I'd have to actually try one to make judgement...

Just guessing, it's pretty similar to the SD-1 & TS, probably just a different "flavor"...

For me it's all about the amp. If I need a pedal to get the amp where I want it, then it's the wrong amp. It's just that simple. I use my amps without a pedal in sight. They don't need it. They make my sound with no effort. My buddy Shawn got a Friedman BE-100. All of his pedals now sit collecting dust. Lol. The right amp is all that matters.

Nah, the DS1 is a totally different beast, miner. It's a very "wet" distortion pedal.

Exactly, that's the Chupa for me...I have no desire or want to run a pedal through that amp, it does it all, for me anyway...

The Mini Jubilee is capable of hair metal gain levels on it's own, but IMHO it doesn't sound "right" unless I tighten the sound with a boost...I think you'd agree it can get pretty flabby on it's own...While I do like the Mini Jubilee, I don't consider it a high gain amp (it was a high gain amp for Marshall at the time it was released in the late 80's) like the Chupa, Brown Eye, etc, it's more of a rock/blues amp, in my humble opinion...

I'd like to try one just to see if I'd like it and/or it does anything different than the pedals I have, but unless one just lands in my lap, it ain't gonna happen...

Nah dude, don't worry about doing that they're only $50 new...Not that I don't appreciate the gesture though, that's mighty cool of you...

I'd much rather see you sell/flip it & put it toward something you really want...

Plus, you might just keep it & pass it along to Jdude Jr. as a family heirloom to ensure your mixolydian heritage lives on... :minernuggs:

I have two overdrive pedals and if I use either it's with the drive OFF.
Clearly I was/am a student of Sheriff Loyacano and Marshall Watts.

Just letting you guys know I am gonna post those Real Tube clips, I spent the biggest part of the day tweaking it through the Chupa & recording some shit, but I ran out of time...For some reason, I thought I'd tried it through that amp, but I hadn't...It had been tucked away, hidden since July...I completely forgot about that pedal when I got my amp back...

Most likely it'll be up in the evening when I post these clips though, gonna eat Thanksgiving dinner with my Mom...Ain't nothin' like Momma's cookin', period...

HELP,
I'm nearing completion on this but there're lots of comments about flubbiness etc Folks thought there was reverb on the guitars which there isn't.
Here's the flubby mix:

Here's an attempt to address that:
EQd guitars mix
- how do I proceed?

The 2nd mix sounds much better Ray, not sure what changes you made, but it's a big improvement...

Something I might try is to mute all the reverb on everything, then bring it back, instrument by instrument to see if that's the culprit...Sometimes eq'ing the low end of a reverb track can help...

On the "how do I proceed", maybe try some subtle automation, bringing certain things up/down during certain parts of the song...Just for example, you'd want the chorus to stand out a bit, so maybe bring the guitars up a db or two for that part...Same thing for everything else too, especially the vocals...Other than that I can't think of anything, but maybe the rest of the gang will have some ideas...

Pretty impressive song Ray, love the feedback ending... :minernuggs:

I personally prefer the "flubby mix". The EQd mix is too thin. IMO all you gotta do to the flubby mix is drop the guitars a little so they aren't so overpowering.

Thanks gents.
I know I overdid the thin mix - but I couldn't tell when to say when.
I'll play with the guitar bus levels and suss out whether that solves things & if it doesn't I'll reduced the EQing a tad and post the reuslts.

Greg, Minerman & every/anyone else:
Step One.
Here's a slight remix. It starts with the FLUBBY one with the guitars backed off and then the thinned one with the thinning backed off.
Only intro V1 & C1 of each.
Any improvement/preference?
