Minerman wrote: ↑Sun Apr 22, 2018 7:24 am Ok dudes, here's one of the clips I made for Mutt, I'm assuming he'll put it on his website when he gets it all fixed up...I swear this "new" strat is fuckin' killer, I've never had a guitar that sounds like this...My playing is a little sloppy, so overlook it...

Signal chain:
MIM Strat > Mini Jubilee > ISO Cab w/Greenback > SM57

I used the bridge pickup split during the rhythm parts (before & after the solo)...The first half of the solo is the bridge humbucker, then the neck humbucker for the 2nd half of the solo...

Mini Jubilee settings:
  • 5w mode
    Presence: 0
    Bass: 5
    Mid: 6.5
    Treble: 3
    Output Master: 7-8
    Lead Master: 5
    Input Gain: 7
Obviously there are effects on the guitar, but most of you know I like effects...

Mutt P'ups Floyd Mix 4-22-2018.mp3

I'm curious to what you guys think about this clip, so lemme know...

More to come... :minernuggs:
Sorry miner, I don't know how I missed this!

Man that sounds killer. I don't know what song it is so I can't compare it to the original, but whatever you did sounds bad ass. Those types of tones are right in your wheelhouse. Well done!

It's Floyd man, from one of the biggest if not THE biggest selling rock album of all time. And the original was done by my mate Gave Gilmour.. Minerdude did it better... :coolstorybro:

Ha Ha, I just listened back to the original. At the time the production values on that were state of the art (rightly so) but boy did Gilmour smother everything with compression.... Miner should have been in flloyd.

Hey if it werent for all that over indulged shit we never woulda gotten punk..;)

They pretty much pulled the rug from under all that concept album stuff but a lot of it was cool and of its time.. Along with The Stones and Zeppelin among others that stuff was the soundtrack to my early youth... then I saw the Pistols and The Clash up close.. Nothing was the same again..

Yuck. So is that like the quintessential Pink Floyd? Is that representative of their best work? Do they have any songs that are faster than 10 bpm?

Their first few albums were pretty definitive of the psychedelic sound of the 60's. Stuff like Arnold Lane and See Emily play were LSD classics. They were pretty much the leaders of the art school bands in the late 60's.. They were kind of the Stranglers if The kinks and the Who's were The Clash in rock movement terms. No they didnt really do any pop or rhythm combo stuff that werent their gig.. They were thick with Warhol and the Velvets..

Their best stuff is prolly scatterd over a few albums leading up to Darkside of the Moon... Umma Gumma, Shine on you Crazy Diamond.. I doubt you would find much to enjoy in it though but their productions skills were immense in the day.. They have always been pretty indulgent.

The Wall - the closest piece of music to it is Joseph's Amazing Technicolour Dream Coat. Both are whole works based on a just couple of weak melodies, global warming levels of repetition, reprises and inept lyrical excursions. THEN we move onto the poor, poor private school boy moaning about how the upper class sausage factory was so cruel next labeling all education in the same way from his entitled perspective. Over TWO LPs - an horrendous experience not enlivened by the visuals.
A least Leonard Cohen had & used his sense of humour amongst his angst, depression, & lust laden songs.
Cheers

Just found out about a model of Les Paul that I actually like and seems a little quirky (not too quirky).
The Les Paul XR-1. Seems like its basically a LP Studio from before they started making studios in the early 80s so doesn't have any binding or block inlays and isn't overly flamed. Also has a maple neck which I believe is pretty unusual for a Les Paul.

Anyone know anything about these? I certainly think they look good and I imagine that they'll sound just like a good Les Paul.
Here it is:

I think it looks really nice - basic and unadorned.

Yup, like a Studio. The maple neck is not uncommon though. I think pretty much every Les Paul from like 69-83 had maple necks.

Oh, had no idea - I assumed they were all Mahogany. Is your '76 maple?

Mine's a 78, and yeah it's maple. Every 70s LP I've ever seen has a maple neck - Mahogany bodies, maple caps, maple necks.

My Traditional has a mahogany neck.

Cool - do you think it actually has any influence on tone? They're both really strong aren't they.

I think maple is stronger, but I'm not sure on that. The 70s LP maple necks are five pieces of maple glued together. They're very hard and very strong. The mahogany necks are just a single piece of wood. Both will snap at the headstock if dropped just right. The 70s maple necks have a volute behind the headstock for extra strength in the snap zone.

As for the tone, no idea. My 78 maple neck Custom is very very very heavy, my mahogany neck '11 Traditional is heavier than an average LP, but lighter than the 70s Custom. When unplugged, the maple-necked Custom has a "warmer" darker tone, the Traditional is brighter and crisper. I don't know how I can attribute any of that to the necks. My results fly in the face of what is commonly thought of maple vs mahogany, and there are too many other variables anyway. I do know that plugged into a Plexi, the neck wood doesn't fucking matter at all.
