putting this here since you can't upload MP3s to the challenge forum
Maybe put your comments in that thread since the only reason it's here is cause MP3s are turned off in the challenge forum
HaHa! Awesome job dude!!! Home run all around. The whole thing is super smooth and a really surprising number of moving parts. More than what i had anticipated hearing anyways. Very happy to hear the sax in here too!!!
Great job. And the mix is also spectacular. I hope this means we get to hear some more stuff from you over the next little bit!

Okay so here is my entry...it is a cover of "The Breakup Song" by Greg Kihn.
Break Up Take 1.mp3
I used my Aston Origin LDC for all the recording.
Here is my drum set up for the song, a guitar case, two hanging pieces of cast iron and a steamer pot with a chain on top.

Well this was freakin impressive. Good job MT! Your little drum kit concoction was brilliant? Sounds very 80's!!! Well i think it sounds pretty 80's really i am familiar with the song but not what decade it came out of. The only thing that doesn't really fit the lo fi garage vibe is the vocals. the vocals seem to be tracked perfectly. And when you guitas kick in you really get a feel for for the room the mic is capturing. Kinda lo fi homemade garage rock. It's perfect.
I wouldn't chnage anything at all though. I dare say it was bang up!
Yeah I tried to dirty up the vocals a bit with Tube Delay and Tube Compressor plug ins. Maybe could have gone a little further with the drive knobs on those.
This was a fun one though. Got me a bit outa my comfort zone.

liv_rong damn, that's a great looking tracking room! And that at least gives me some ideas about how the heck to mic a drum kit with a single mic. I'm puzzled about how to do that.
Lt. Bob holy crap that sounds great! It's a great full sounding mix. Nice playing as well, and I like the off-the-cuff song. It's perfect.
MXL is having a strong showing so far in the single-mic category.

I assume the screwdrivers were your drumsticks? lol
To me, it sounds like it's in the same family of sounds that vomitHatSteve's puts in his tunes.

Lol it's still less satanic than whatever rituals Katie Perry and Taylor Swift do in their performances.

I'm glad I did this ..... I miss recording plus I discovered my mixer has channels out so I'll have to do something about this.
But this was fun ....... maybe next week I'll try another.
Wow! Cool! Interesting chord progression and harmonies. That's amazingly clean recording and nice mixing too.
