VIDEO 2 - Choose Your Weapons
VIDEO 2 - Choose Your Weapons
So this is the second of the two that were done. My young video maker had clearly got all this sorted and then I came up and we recorded some miming in the shed with his father's stage lights and overlaid the two.
I had no idea what he'd dreamt up for this one and had I known ahead of time, I might have said "maybe not..."
The song is Choose Your Weapons and it's basically about a couple fighting all the time, with the singer having to deal with a frighteningly emotionally retareded woman - the "weapons" being the things she uses to hurt him with. Seems pretty obvious when you read the lyrics.
What I wasn't expecting was a lovingly filmed Winchester rifle taking centre stage! Bit of an overly literal interpretation of the title perhaps. But then, that's what he had around to work with so... in the second half he uses guitars and a mandolin as the focus - again, his father's collection. I do wish the first thing you saw WASN'T a Yamaha headstock and was perhaps a Gibson or Fender but it is, at least, a cool Yamaha.
I also realised, even though I'm miming, that I appear to sing out of one side of my mouth. Had no idea, not having seen myself sing before. I don't know if I really do that, or whether I was just getting my angry face on and that's how it came out.
Anyway, the second and last of the vids he made - maybe there'll be some more at some stage, but I guess I probably should pay him for anything else - and he lives 1000km to the north, so it's a bit difficult.

Very cool BUT it does need a trim at the beginning - silent blackness s dead air.
Weapons surrendered in the latest amnesty?
Honey HUNTERS, Weapons, Armistice...hmm theme?
Nice juxtaposition of guitar/axe & rifles.
Warm wood, aged metal, red n blue to give the hint of 3D.
Volume as a weapon - arguments and rock.
Is very good.

Very good. I think the juxtaposition of guitar and Winchester should've started earlier in the video - kind of making the viewer unsure of what device they were actually looking at. Brill quality though, and I think your music is best served by having images going along with it.

Really sounds like an Armistice song! Sounds great, mate. And its cool that you've got someone to help you make good quality videos like that.

Cheers JD. I think this is way different from my "normal" stuff - it was recorded several years back, in the main, when I was just moving over to a PC-based DAW. It was an instrumental for ages, then I used the middle section as backing music in a short film I made for work, and then decided that it really needed to be a song and I spent ages trying to come up with a 4 syllable phrase to use - ask Bubba! - I was working through various options with him on FB until I got "CYW" and I knew that was it, and that once again I was going to write a song about this mad woman I dated years back. Didn't take long to knock the words up once I knew that. She's been good for SO much material.
Thanks Bub - had a similar thought myself, but he already had it lined up and it had taken months and months and months to get this far, so I just went with it or it may have taken another year to get it done. It's not like anyone's ever going to see it anyway.Bubba wrote: ↑Sun Oct 29, 2017 11:53 am Very good. Ray - you need to turn that HPF off you've got installed in your ears - there's a synth rumbling away down low in those first 10 seconds I think you'll find. I wouldn't overthink The Honey Hunters - amazing Nepalese tribe who go to great lengths to secure honey from a cliff face - being singular, I was thinking "The Honey Hunter" but that sounds vaguely porn-starrish, so I kept it as plural. You'll see lots of stuff about them if you try to google the clip And it was better than my working title - Revenger, anyway! Cheers mate.rayc wrote: ↑Sun Oct 29, 2017 12:08 am Very cool BUT it does need a trim at the beginning - silent blackness s dead air.

Ah, I think it sounds just like normal Armistice, its so far away from stuff I would normally listen to though. Its sounds similar to Stalking Horse and the other two you've posted recently - like they're off the same album.Armistice wrote: ↑Mon Oct 30, 2017 6:24 am Cheers JD. That's be the auto select quality on Utub - it selects lofi because of the slow to mortified line speed we have. I'll download in HD is I may & then enjoy the synth.

Re: VIDEO 2 - Choose Your Weapons
You said he was studying filmmaking, right?
I wonder if some of his directorial choices were to cover specific technical checkboxes on his assignments?
Yeah, the guitar images probably should have come in earlier. Oh well. Pretty cool video still.

He was studying filmmaking - as in isn't any longer. He's been released into the wild.vomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Mon Oct 30, 2017 1:15 pm You said he was studying filmmaking, right?

He sent me a snapshot of his name in the credits of Thor Ragnarok the other day, as "video assistant" - whatever that is...

Armi, i love your mixes man. I love how you plunk your vocals in to your mixes and they gel so friggin nice but they still sound so "popped" I don't know how to explain better. it's very cool. Outstanding man. I love this mix.
Cool video too. I like the old timey guns and stuff.

Oh, nice!
Probably means hauling cameras so the top videographer doesn't have to!
Re: VIDEO 2 - Choose Your Weapons
Loved everything about it! Very good work on the video. The mix sounds great and the song is great. Reminds me of some of those early videos on MTV. Well done!
