The Tone Thread
Re: The Tone Thread
Miner, this bass thing is a keeper. I LOVE it. I took my Bootsy EQ out of the chain and replaced it with this thing. It's awesome. Meatier but also more definition.
Check it out. First try, so you guys let me know if it could use more or less of anything.

Fuck, now I know I'm going to go back and re-mix a bunch of tunes, at least the more recent ones.[BBvideo=560,315]https://youtu.be/p-QYRITpXrY[/BBvideo]

Yeah! That's got a bit of snarl to it. Very good.rammer24 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2017 10:47 pm Miner, this bass thing is a keeper. I LOVE it. I took my Bootsy EQ out of the chain and replaced it with this thing. It's awesome. Meatier but also more definition.

Re: The Tone Thread
I have a lot of room for more snarl, too. I barely put any on, so that's good.It actually sounded good even with the Drive almost off. I put just enough to hear it. I like this thing.

Yeah, it's going through a Waves bass amp sim>The new thing>Compressor. The bass amp has a cab and a mic.

Re: The Tone Thread
Yeah. Ibanez active. This thing never goes out of tune. I pick it up a month after last time I play it and I barely even have to tweak any of the strings. I love this thing.

Re: The Tone Thread
Yeah dude, the older version (2) has had a permanent place in my bass chain for quite a while now...I think the new version (3) is backwards compatible, so whatever settings were used with older versions will still be recognized & everything works...
Sounds good dude, the guitar solo sounds like Ace Frehley in spots to me...

Awesome. It's rare that I imeediately like a new plug-in. This thing is great. Thanx dude. Really appreciated.
So, I have version 3?

Re: The Tone Thread
AFAIK dude, it should say something on the plugin's gui, will probably say something in Reaper's fx list too...
Just had a look, & it shows in Reaper's fx list as "BOD" only...but looking at the gui, you can tell because it looks slicker than the original...
V3 on the left, v2 on the right here dude...

Re: The Tone Thread
Yeah, pretty sure I have V3. Whichever one I have, I like it. I pretty much have everything at 12 o'clock, except for the "Low" knob, which I have at about 4 o'clock. It's one of those plugs that makes the bass sound better even when all the controls are pretty much neutral. Just going through it makes it sound better.

Re: The Tone Thread
If you have the "Input/Config/Output" controls at the bottom, you have the latest, V3...rammer24 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 15, 2017 5:36 pm Yeah, pretty sure I have V3. Whichever one I have, I like it. I just noticed your signal chain in the screenshot, you're running your bass rig through the BOD, I always used it as a stompbox on the input side, so I'll have to try it how you've got it set up...
What I like about it is the ability to control how much grind/dirt you hear in the bass tone...I've actually did the same thing, but using 2 completely different bass rigs (different tracks), then blending using each track's faders...

Re: The Tone Thread
Yeah, I tried it before the amp and after. For my set up, it sounds better after. I do have V3.

Re: The Tone Thread
Rami,
the BODed bass version is cool - the fixed guitars and the slightly grittier bass work well.
The Behringer BDI21 is a clone of the Sansamp that the BOd is a dig copy of. It's only about AUS$50 and is as good - if outboard.

Re: The Tone Thread
Cool, Ray. I didn't know that. Never heard of this Bod thing, but I'm really glad I posted my tune when I did and Greg mentioned the bass, which lead to Minerman showing me the Bod. Synchronicity at it's finest.....or something.
Anyone else want to see Miner's Bod? It's quite nice.

Re: The Tone Thread
Bod Buds?
I downloaded the thing & will probably install it since it's free but as I have the hardware equiv. I won't use it on stuff I'll record in the future. It might be handy for old tracks and other people's stuff.
It does alright on a clean guitar as well - adding a little bit of grit.

Re: The Tone Thread
Ah, sorry - back to my amp & Mustang thing.
I THINK I've come to realize that the Mustang just doesn't go well with the little amp. Most reviews seem to talk about the guitar in concert with pedals etc. That may be it's place in my pile - unless I find a better result from mic and setting combos.
I did discover that the guitar vol at full is too hot for the preamp in the Kustom and that rolling off some volume as well as a little top end on the guitar also helps but, ultimately, they don't seem to work well together.
Here's a couple of minutes of the same song I used previously: it starts with just the mustang playing simple power chords then moves to the chorus with it playing F shaped chords. That also highlighted JDOD observation that the intonation seems off - I'm traveling the 30ks to put it in for a "FREE" set up on Tuesday but that won't change the tone significantly. After the chorus my single coil Bruno Royal Artist enters the mix and seems to have a MUCH better relationship with the amp for tone, volume and feedback. What do you reckon?

Re: The Tone Thread
Ray, besides the tuning/intonation thing, it doesn't sound that bad. It seems that you maybe have a sound in your head that you want to achieve with this setup, and it just won't.rayc wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2017 5:47 am Ah, sorry - back to my amp & Mustang thing.
