I don't understand the hate for this record or this band at all. Nor do I understand the lack of empathy for deeply destructive mental illness. It's clearly a fucking great record by any standards. Anyway, I shall get on with it when I've finished my garden and house chores.

Whoops! Thank. Cut paste error

Yeah! It's shaping up really nicely

Nice choice! When I mentioned this project, that was the one my keyboardist recommended.

I get why old hair metal guys hate it. This album was pitched as the death of that genre. If, say, a rap album in 2005 was ubiquitously described as the one that killed alt rock, it would have taken me a long time to give it a fair shake.
But yeah, this is an impressive album. Just so many excellent choices and a surprisingly limited number of tools used to accomplish them.

OK, ....... I'm committing to 'In Bloom' .......... skimmed thru all the songs not claimed and that seemed most interesting to me.

I gotta say I could see having some of this on as background music .... it's basically Pink Floyd drone done with sloppy guitars.

And I say 'sloppy guitars' as a style description rather than an insult .... I like sloppy .... I also like technical precision but I do like sloppy ..... it's more human.
This stuff would be very Pink Floydy if you replaced the gits with keyboards.

And man, they really relied on that I down to a VI a lot. Sometimes up to a VI though so that was different ........ :smiles:

Yeah, it's pretty obvious if I don't listen to it directly.

I enjoyed trawling through the album but there're a couple of songs that I don't click with.
The folk that, likely, bought me the album were into Dinosaur Jr, Lemonheads, Smashing pumpkins, You Am I etc so were pretty diverse and not locked not grunge at all.

Not playing this time gents as my studio time currently is being curtailed by a serious of unfortunate events. It'd be weeks before I got to it.

I remember somewhere else here saying I was in a covers band and I sang 3 songs out of the entire repertoire - Get Off Of My Cloud, Guydbuy to Jane, and I couldn't remember what the third one was...

I remembered the other day. It was, of course...

Smells. Like. Teen. Spirit. :lollers:

Who's doing that?

I considered it. I know it pretty well since my 90s band obviously plays it. But is just seemed so obvious!

DONE:
I used BIAB for the bits I can't do ... as usual...
TERRITORIAL PISSTAKING
Territorial Pisstake.mp3
I took my lead from Something In The Way & Lt. Bob's observations.
I found the simplest chords online: F# D B with an "interlude" of A
I changed the "chorus" to F#m D Bm to stay awake.
BIAB organ, drums, lead and cello.
I did the bass, arp guitars, FX guitars, trem guitar, odd bits of guitar and choakals.
I tracked a lot more than that but razored away to just a few parts.
Oh, I did Soft Loud by way of arrangement rather than level.
Does it go here or is there a separate space for the results?

Come on, armi. Do an acoustic version of On A Plain or something.

I've got my drums programmed for my song this morning I'll try and finish it later in the week.

Good Lord!!

I won't even have listened to 'In Bloom' enough to even have any ideas until a week or so .... that's fast work man!

I'll listen later ..... gotta start figuring out who can replace my roof.

Dang! That was fast. Nice work.

I think we're just posting them all here, then maybe we'll compile them somewhere easier to access? All the other challenges have largely just been posted between this subforum an LHaL.

Dang @rayc that was fast! I have a vague concept for mine but it's going to take some practice to be able to even get it "close enough for rock and roll". I'll have a listen to yours later when I'm in front of my studio computer.

"Dang"?

This is a word I've not heard or seen in use for a very long time outside of this BBS... :lollers:

It's a non-sweary way to say "damn" isn't it?

Trust me, doing anything with an acoustic guitar is in no way easier for me.

Let me have a listen to On A Plain. Nothing I can do until next week, however.

You have to remember that I'm not just old but also retired. I can fill my day in many ways after the basic chores are done. Yesterday was No yard work, no walks but upstairs house work and then Pissing.
I think I managed to do almost exactly what Kurt wouldn't have wanted done.

I have the best idea for Come as You Are, but.

You all know the timelines i work with in so, if in the event that slot is available come the fall / winter I'll take it. If not i look forward to how this all turns out!

Great Job ray! Stray as far you can from the foundation. I love it!

I think greg refused even the Killing Joke version of it, so it's definitely still available.
