The Spaghetti Puppets
The Spaghetti Puppets
In a vague attempts to step away from baritone guitars and get some feedback/suggestions/commentary...
Here's the 1st post: and a recent, (draft vocals/melody done with a Behri dynamic, in my hand at the desk, quietly):
Some changes made based on MMM's observations. Bass level's the same though as 2 dB makes it disappear so I have to make it a small adjustment after some careful listening.
New mix - bass lower, (I did that via the compression return), left guitar a little louder with it & the cello balanced in the solo. Things a tiny bit brighter..but tiny at theis stage. I've addressed the sibilant stuff and noise from the vocal so that it's not masking the guitars.
The original Pygmy Beat vocalist may be having a crack at this one.
This has the original Pygmy Beat Singer on it.
Fairly simple treatment so far as he's only sent me 192 MP3s...I HOPE I'll get something better from him sonically. There're artefacts & that low res MP3 sound which I've combated with some trickery but it'll be better with decent files I hope.
27/06/23 mix.
24 bit .wav files for the main vocal this time. A little less snare n kick plus raised the "solos" a bit. The Spaghetti Puppets

Re: The Spaghetti Puppets
I liked the bass sound on both mixes. It might be a bit loud. But it sounded good.
I thought the second mix was definitely better. The tremolo guitar on the first mix didn't sound right to me. It's much better in the second mix.
The guitars all have a slight bit of dullness to them. They might sound better with a little high-mid boost. Maybe centered around 3500hz or so. Just a db or two.
The vocal has a bit of a "sung through a cardboard tube" sound to it.
Hang on... on second listen, there is something I like better in the first mix. There is a rhythm guitar part on the left. It starts at about :20. It's kind of a chugging rhythm part - I like that. I don't hear it on the second mix.

Okay,
I've tried to lower the bass but it's a dicey thing that'll take some work adjusting.
The trem in the 1st was toooooo deeeep I think.
I've added a little peak at 3500 on the guitars that weren't already bright.
I dragged in the chugging guitar you liked. It's there on the L again.
The vocals, as explained...softly into a hand held cheap dynamic then Normalized becasue of it. Sounds awful but it gave me the chance to sketch the melody and test the lyrics.
PHANQUE.
New mix up.

Re: The Spaghetti Puppets
Jumping in on 10
Something is bending it's pitch at 0:11. I think it's the lead guitar, but it's making it sound like the bass is out of tune. I'm noticing a couple moments like that in the intro
I like the vocal delivery on this one
Mix-wise, I would probably take the guitar down a notch or two.

I was experimenting with the trem bar as it is spaghetti. Clearly not enough bend to get away with. I'll fix that.
Which guitar? The bent note one?

Re: The Spaghetti Puppets
Listening to 10.
I think the bass is too loud. By at least a couple db's IMO.
I'd turn up that guitar on the left that I like.
I'd still say that, in general, the electric rhythm guitars could be a bit brighter.

Re: The Spaghetti Puppets
VERSION 11.
I've accentuated the tem bar wobble of the lead as it was only noticeable enough to be a problem...now it moves a semi tone.
Lowered the bass a bit and some more.

Re: The Spaghetti Puppets
That's what's weird about it, is that it's hard to tell. I think it's probably the lead (especially if you're bending it with the trem bar)rayc wrote: ↑Wed Jun 14, 2023 6:47 pmThanks Steve, vomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Wed Jun 14, 2023 12:08 pm Jumping in on 10

Also, I meant to say I'd take the bass down a notch. I don't know why I typed guitar.
I'll check out mix 11 after I get out of this meeting.

Re: The Spaghetti Puppets
The bass turned down is definitely an improvement, yeah.
Re: The Spaghetti Puppets
I like the bass level on 11. I also like the level of that guitar on the left.
Maybe the snare and kick are just a bit loud?
I think the trem stuff sounds good now.

Re: The Spaghetti Puppets
New mix with vocals from a decent singer. Terry was the original PB singer...Greg played drums on several songs featuring him.

I've been wondering about the drums but no one had mentioned them. I'll get on to that tomorrow. THANKS.

Re: The Spaghetti Puppets
No nits on the new vocalist.
I would point out that your post describes the second mix as "most recent" still tho.

Re: The Spaghetti Puppets
Just trying to catch up on some music I've missed lately and I'm coming in on mix 11.
Really like this, Ray, it's such a different style from what I'm used to hearing from you! To my ear, everything sounds really clean and clear. Well done!

If I knew what I was doing, I'd be dangerous!

Re: The Spaghetti Puppets
Once I realized what order the mixes went in, I was able to figure it out, but I did definitely click the wrong one the first time!
Re: The Spaghetti Puppets
Ray you gotta come up with a better system. This is a mess. You don't need to keep every version of every tweak on every mix. I have no idea which one to listen to.

Re: The Spaghetti Puppets
They are sorted numerically but yes, it's not a system. I symptom of laziness perhaps.
