Yeh it pretty much is. More bespoke than custom but yeh...

I'm on yours now. Stay tuned. How hot you want it? I recon we can go to about 11k safely without making a muddy one trick pony. You wanted around 10.4 right?
Yeah - that's right. Hot but not JB hot.

I've got a track ready to demo this pickup in a mix, full, split, open strums, picked single notes and chugs.

Yeah it looks like a modern take on a Filtertron. Very cool looking.

yeh, the cases are quite fullertron like. Mostly those were toasters and humbuckers as well. I'm going to make up a p90/bucker with rails and an open case when I have time and see what it comes out like.

Note especially the gold plated brass bobbin screws and nickel silver baseplate. Improving on vintage, thats where its at people...:)

the second pup is the one I initially wound with the shite quality bobbins. Ive been testing out magnets in it for a week or so and have decided to stick with the Alnico 4 we originally spec'd for this. plenty of punch but not too brittle and also takes the edge off the brash sound of a stock bridge bucker....

Lt, as discussed I had a go at knocking up a maple pup surround... I will be sending them over to you. You can go with them if you want or source some white ones where you are....

Your call..

Stop bar is planned. I can prolly turn some maple knobs with a white mop dot in the centre as well..... What size were you thinking?

Yep no problem. Do you mean cream bobbins with a metal cover like Lt's or just a cream cover? Either is not a problem.

Ok folks, this job for Lt has stalled a bit cos he told me he wont be able to work on the guitar for a weeks. However it's not forgotten and today I had a chance to get on with the neck pup.

A Mutt90 humbucker p90 style with a coil tap.. The idea was to give Boob the option of a lower output p90 and a full fat full wind vintage output.

The eagle eyed among you will spot there are 3 wires coming off the bobbin. The green wire is a tap wire which interrupts the coil at around 7000 turns and gives an output of about 6.4k. The red wire is the finish and is at the end of the coil at 9500 turns and gives a full out put of around 8.2k. Boob will now have the option to wire it up to throw switch or pull pot to give either a fat strat single coil sound or a full on p90..

I also discussed with him the idea of putting a white plastic cover over the bobbin to match up with the plain maple used on just about everything else on the guitar. In the end I thought why not make one out of maple and see how that looks... Well Lt, what you think? I can make one to match up[ the neck pup if you want...?

I had to drill out a standard humbucker baseplate to get a 48mm centre as no makes them for bucker p90's.. Its not seen though and wont affect anything adversely..

The thing about pickups is they tend to be the worst place for collecting dust and dirt so I would probably advise putting a flat finish on it that can take a bit of cleaning. If you like that worn maple look then by all means it can be left "in the white"...
