This should be self explanatory.

Drums - kick, snare, hat, tom, tom, tom, OHL, OHR, Room L, Room R, effects/replacement tracks for Kick, snare, OHs, and folder - 14
Bass - DI, amp 1, amp2, amp3, and folder - 4
Rhythm guitar - DI L, amp L, di R, amp R, and folder - 5
Abomination 1 - Bass DI L, Bass amp L, guitar DI L, guitar amp L, Bass di R, bass amp R, guitar di R, guitar amp R, folder - 9
Abomination 2 - di R, amp R, DI L, Amp L, folder - 5
Lead guitar - DI L, amp L, DI R, amp R, folder - 5
Lead vox - raw, compressed, reverb, folder - 4
Tripled lead vox for emphasis + folder - 3

Ok, it's closer to 60 or 70. :D

I use folders the same way vHSteve does, I keep all the grouped tracks together, colored the same, with the folder as the master for each...This is pretty handy for processing things as a group (IE: compression on the whole drum kit), or controlling the volume of several tracks at once...

  • Guitar di's = black
    Guitars = blue
    Bass = purple
    Drums = green
    Vocals = red
    Reverb/FX = yellow
Here's a bigger pic if anyone's interested:

This isn't a "full" song/project either, it still doesn't have any vocal tracks, or lead/fill guitar tracks...But once I get everything tracked/recorded, I'll use the track manager to hide a bunch of the tracks that aren't needed (like the guitar di's, & midi tracks for example)...

All the drum tracks except the midi are empty right now, but I'll eventually render them to audio (wav), & use them like real drum tracks...

I'm still in the process of switching to Superior 3 for everything, so the SSD4 tracks will be eliminated eventually, which would remove a few tracks...

Ok here is a question. I have an old cover project i am dusting off and hoping to kill in the next week or two and i am also making this my "learn reaper folders" effort. So far i am pretty stoked on how it cleans up the work flow, layouts and SUPER easy muting of multiple things all at once. but now i have a question.

How do you guys use these folders in accordance with effects busses? Do you keep them inside the folders or do you move them out of the folders? Or would it really matter? I guess maybe it all depends on how a person goes about using there effects and personal mixing styles right? Like you would put all your effects in one folder on it's own would you?

Am i overthinking this?

I tend to put the FX on the top level of the folder if it's gonna affect everything in the folder.
