Anything is an instrument if you believe in yourself...

...and run it through enough distortion and delay.

So I found this at a Goodwill.

It makes terrible sounds

Thus, I must turn it into an instrument!

Step 1:
Pop it open and stare befuddled at the wires.

Step 2:
Figure out the voltage of the batter pack and insert an appropriate DC adapter in it's place (I a'int messing with batteries!)

Step 3:
Put a 1/4" jack in parallel with those speakers so I can plug it into an amp

Step 4:
Poke various contacts until it starts making weird noises or dies entirely (not attached: photos of the 3 other toys I broke during this step)

Step 5:
Connect those two points where it made weird noises via a pot.

Step 6:
Replace all those alligator clips with real wires (cannibalized mostly from the toys that broke)

Step 7:
Close up and test

Step 8:
Metal.

All said and done, this project took probably 3 hours to do. Plus 10 minutes to track the "tune"

Oh, dear... What the actual fuck have you just done!!!

The mix is a bit lopsided to the left. Its also both quite dark, but has some fizz at the top end. The beat isn't solid enough either.

The 2:20 intro before the main riff comes in is too long.

The first chorus is good, but is also a bit lopsided, maybe you should double track it and hardpan.

This is fucking cool, yet horrifying as hell. I believe i have been chased by gestapo wolves with bludgeons in night mares to that song.

Good job VHS.

Ha ha!

Yeah, it's not a great mix. More a proof-of-concept. Eventually, I'll start my metal project and use stuff like this as the base but make actually coherent mixes.
I was also testing out whether I could use my new headphone amp to split a signal to multiple amps. (The answer is yes).
I did another one where I basically just set a guitar between two amps and played with pedal settings for 10 minutes while it fed back. :D

Gestapo wolves with bludgeons is my favorite nazisploitation film! How did you know?!

I'm pretty bad at electrical work. I just know how to turn on a soldering iron, and I fake it from there. (And try to remember to google which wire is live before I do anything so as to not die.)
