I tried out a Kurt Cobain Jaguar (in Andertons, no less) and didn't really like it. It felt like a much cheaper guitar - kind of like playing an average LP Studio but being charged for a Standard.

It's got twin humbuckers and a tune-o-matic bridge, you div. We're trying to get away from that!JD01 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2017 10:32 am Or maybe this:

Re: My next guitar - advise me!
I'd have to say, at this stage I'm probably leaning to a Tele of some sort - while I like some of the stuff with the Jazzmaster, and to a lesser extent, the Jag, the versatility of the Tele is probably winning me over. I'm getting a few interesting mixed reviews on both here and there with the new models too - they almost never come up second hand in the places I frequent, anyway. Plus, not really a fan of the Jag aesthetic to be honest and the switching - not that the switching isn't useful and understandable, but that they still use 50 year old switch designs, but that's the inherent conservatism of guitarists for you, isn't it?
Ricks seem too expensive for what you get. Not much else actually around in stores.
I do like the Duesenberg Starcaster TV, and there was a mint green one (as in it's mint and it's green, not mint green!) for sale about 2 hours north at a pretty good price, and it sort of does single coily stuff despite being dual humbucker, reasonably well - maybe that's a future purchase.
Will play my mates Tele when I go up so I'll see what I think then, then wait for sales.

Re: My next guitar - advise me!
Ha, I was thinking the same. They're simple single purpose machines. Set phasers to twang, and you're off. It's a great sound, but that's about all they do.
I have to recommend a Jazzmaster. They do twangy jangly stuff, strat-like neck single coil stuff, and dark jazzy stuff. Dial the volume back a bit on the bridge pickup and they're more in Strat territory. Plus there's the trem. But maybe I'm biased since I have one and love it.
Re: My next guitar - advise me!
Wrong word... In the context of what I'm doing I think a Tele is the wise choice, but I haven't actually played either yet, so anything could happen...
Re: My next guitar - advise me!
I did try a Tele recently called a Baja Tele. It had a 4 way switch and a push pull. Can't remember what all the options were cos I didn't really like it. Preferred the standard teles. Might sound you though, Armistice.
Here it is. The weird electronics might give you a couple more options

Fuck Telecasters. They suck. You have a Strat already right? There's your thin jangly single coil tone. You have a Les Paul. You have a cheeseball PRS and that awesomely crazy Burns thing. All good options. What do you not have? A P-90. You need a guitar with a P-90 in it.

Re: My next guitar - advise me!
That reverend I posted on the last page had a P90 and looked pretty cool. My cheap arse PRS with P90s sounds good. It's pug ugly though.
Teles are great though.

Re: My next guitar - advise me!
Bullshit.
In the right hands a Tele is as versatile as anything out there. The thing with a Tele is it will make you work for a living. There's plenty of great players out there using a Tele, that most would be hard pressed to tell that it was a Tele being used on the recordings.

Ah yes, P90s. Good point - I see more guitars in my future.Greg_L wrote: ↑Sat Aug 05, 2017 12:55 pm Fuck Telecasters. They suck. You have a Strat already right? I like my telecaster, but it does one thing.
Get a Jazzmaster or Jag. You're not that far from Japan. are you?

Roman, Mr Smith did ask and options are flying: mine are silly, but are also things I, myself, would consider.
Cheers
