I had one ..... heaviest thing ever made.
A head that literally took two people to move ..... 6-6550's for power tubes I think.

One time we were playing a gig on the parade grounds at LSU and the stage was a couple of flat-beds.
So my head is on a stand like waiters use to open and put the trays on.
Someone bumped into the amp and knocked the stand over .... the head fell all the way to the ground .... had to be a good 7-8 feet!
WHAM!! heavy ass thing like a safe smashing into the ground.

We picked it up .... lifted it to the stand ..... plugged the speaker back in ..... no problem. Didn't leave a mark on it!

Bulletproof to the max.

However they weren't that loud ..... I remember being very disappointed .... it was basically a stereo amp and either amp by itself didn't really hump all that much.

That article said that the power was split between 3 outputs. Interesting. And damn boob, you must have been rich! It says that the head would be equivalent to over $4k in today's dollars.

It’s perfect for thumping Motown, scooped punk or reggae, or bright punchy slap tones.
What punk band in the 70s had $2250 for a single amplifier!? That could pay for their entire backline! Plus studio time! Plus pressing an album! Plus a tour in support of that album! Plus a van to carry that backline!

I did a lot of trading back in those days.
There was a 24 hour seafood restaurant and all the one-nighter bands would go there after getting back to town from gigs.
Come 3am and there might be a dozen bands in there eating and trading gear.
An amp or speakers might change hands 3 or 4 time without anyone actually seeing them. Then come Monday everyone would be driving around town picking up and delivering gear.
So I got it in some trade although $300 seems to stick in my mind for some reason.
But splitting the output is/was dumb ..... the only way you get full output is to have 3 speakers to plug it into.

The Sex Pistols stole their gear so they may have had one.

It's pretty funny punk rock history to read about when the Ramones finally got their Marshall stacks and Ampeg bass rigs. They didn't know how to work them, so they just cranked them like they did their smaller beginner amps. Their crowds literally suffered in a tiny place like CBGB.

Steve Jones has talked a fair bit about being a right little Klepto when he was younger. Said he used to nick a load of stuff even when he didn't need it... although it was obviously handy when they needed gear.

Their whole band had killer gear. They stole the right kind of stuff.
