Hey JD - fella I know is selling a 5 string vintage modern in hard case for £250. It's in London, though. Not sure if that might include postage (guessing not). Let me know if you're interested in finding out more. Pic below:

Looks pretty nice, mate. But 4 strings are easily enough to confuse me on bass!

And God spake thusly: When counting the strings on a bass guitar thou must count to four. Four shall be the number of the counting and the number of the counting shall be four. Five shalt thou not count, neither shalt thou count two or three, excepting that thou then proceedeth to four. Six is right out.....

I like the idea of 5 string basses because I play guitar in drop d, d standard and drop c so having that extra string seems good to me. On the other hand I mostly play in drop d so a four string bass makes the most sense for me.

Nicely done Bob.
I have a 5 string and I don't play it. I can't get my head around the extra string I reach for an E & find the wrong note where my fingers and brain say it should be.
They don't record all that well in my experience either. SOUND deep & deadly live but not so much in a recording.
Cheers

Just tried a couple of vintage modified Squires. Really liked the Jazz. Seem to have a nice middy tone that would stick out nicely in a mix. Gonna get one.

The bass I've ALWAYS wanted in terms of cool & looks is the Fender with ashtray bridge & pickup covers. Those adornments speak bass to me. Won't happen though.

Well here is what I ended up with:

Ibanez TMB300 and a DI. I like it but know nothing about basses or what I like/will/might like about them so there's that. Its pickup configuration is kind of cool, blending options and very tweakable and it looks nice.

Just got a call from my local shop, my old Washburn sold. £300 quid.

Some fucker got a bargain on a '78 Washburn Hawk but now I have the cash to get a bass. I got it for £275 quid in 2002.. so thats a pretty small increase in 15 years!

Go and do it immediately, before you spend it on something else!
