JD01 wrote: Tue Oct 24, 2017 5:00 am That's great, Mutt. Looks excellent and is really clear and easy to understand.

Would it be possible for you to slightly reduce the neck angle and then also lower the bridge slightly by removing the shim? Not suggesting that its a good idea just wondering if I have the science right.

How does a neck-through work then? 'cos you don't have a neck pocket/heal join when you can create the angle.
The shim is there to place the bridge where it will be in its lowest position with the studs in place so effectively that IS the lowest possible bridge position.

On a neck thru you would plan to have the angle built in to the neck before you glue it up and tinker it by planing the face before you install the fingerboard. Neck thru does often limit the choice of bridge..
Yeah, I gather why your shim is there in the pictures - I'm just trying to get it right in my head - if you could lower the bridge further by a few mm would this correspond to a reduction in neck angle?

How does neck-through limit your bridge choice? Is it 'cos its harder to get a significant neck angle with a neck through - it looks like it probably would be but I'm not a luthier!

the only way you could lower the bridge anymore would be by sinking the studs further into the body. The studs have a lip or bevel that the bridge sits on. That is what the shim is replicating. In this case it is around 3mm..

Its been a while since I've been able to do anything on this due to other work load but this week once the old eyes had settled I had a day free to tinker with it. I have a bunch of pics and vids still to sort and upload when I have time but today I decided to turn this into a real pup test bed.

I was mulling over what pup to put in this for ages and having cut a bucker route I decided to go the whole way and double up for a p90 route as well.

Its quite a complicated route because I wanted to keep as much wood in there as possible and I needed ledges for the p90 to sit on and also tight spaces for the mutt90 and buckers... Here's what I ended up with...

jnr route.jpeg

Now with a slightly modified template I can have a.... Mutt90..

jnr p90.jpeg

A B90....
jnr mutt90.jpeg

or a plain old Muttbucker any flavour I want.

Swapping them out should be really simple and the pups are still mounted as they normally would be. I plan on building a snap on connector box into the control cavity so I can swap out with out solder.. More to follow.

Now what colour are we going to through at this????????????

Excellent multipurpose route Mutt. I love the scratch plate. The reflections make me think LP blue for a moment as well BUT I reckon solid black would go very nicely with the scratchy.
Cheers

The scratchplate is just from some old gun metal grey mirrored plastic I had laying around. I can cut a scratchplate out of any colour plastic that suits so that wont reflect what colour I go with or if I use a colour at all. I may just go with a wine red translucent colour or maybe just hit it with french polish until I make up my mind. I want to get the thing playing pretty soon as I hate having half finished jobs kicking around...

BTW black is about the hardest to do along with white...

I was just about to break this down and start marking out for drilling the bridge studs when I had a terrible thought...

What about our gerg, the jnr purist? What about him?

So I did this.

Phew fury averted... Dogear option included. :coolstorybro:

Carry on. Nothing to see here...

Lol. I like it no matter what you do to it. Well, within reason. Don't go making it a fanned fret 7-string or anything.

I think any color really would work just don't do this:

But after examining this picture i think it would be kind of cool to have all the tele guts in Junior style guitar. Maybe just not tie dyed and covered in fucking glitter. :like:
