Inside Of You - haven't posted an original in a while...

Post by Greg_L »

Here's a typically stupid original I just finished up. You'll have to forgive me. It's a love song.

I'm pretty happy with the mix, but yall tear it up anyway.

Here's the dumb words:

I see you over there
With your pretty hair
And that complexion is just perfection

I'm gonna get your attention
But I'm not gonna mention
When I get you home I'm gonna see your bones

It's a tight fit, snug inside
But if I get it right
I'll be able to hide
If I get it right I'll be able to hide
If I get it right I'll be able to hide

Inside of you
I'm gonna be inside of you
I just wanna be inside of you

You're such a pretty girl
I'm gonna see the world
Right through your eyes, I'll shoo away the flies

It's a tight fit, snug inside
But if I get it right
I'll be able to hide
If I get it right I'll be able to hide
If I get it right I'll be able to hide

Inside of you
I'm gonna be inside of you
I just wanna be inside of you

I'm gonna slide right in
Into your perfect skin
Everything that I do
You're gonna have to do it too
You're gonna have to do it too

Inside of you
I'm gonna be inside of you
I just wanna be inside of you

I am gonna be inside of you

All I'd say is that the intro solo, after the phased 1st bit, needs a little lift as it seems to be taking the lyric literally.
Bass is wonderful - the boogie/old rnr run parts sound amazing.
Drums - have you changed your snare at all? It sounds great but a little different.
Rhythm guitars - fabbo.
Solo - GREAT , great, - yeah great.
Vocals - The bvox are spot on and the main vocals is terrific - great capture.
Lyrics - well, they say that's what, subconsciously, every male wants.
Cool and amazing as well.
Cheers

Ramones-y.

Rhythm guitars sound great. Vocals sound great. Drums too.

Levels are very good.

My only complaint is the sound of the guitar riff in the intro. I think it would work better on a slightly cleaner tone. As it is, it kind of blends with the rhythm guitar. When it's doing the solo in the middle, it sounds fine. I like the flange on the rhythm on the left in the intro.

All in all - excellent.

Thanks fellas.

I'm not gonna retrack the intro lead guitar, but I can make it pop more. Or maybe I will retrack. I don't know. By the time this makes it to an album the earth might not even exist anymore! Maybe I'll do like a twang bang tremolo springy surf tone for that intro lead. That was my initial intent, but I just banged all the guitars out at one time. As always, I just plug in and let er rip. I'm in a very spontaneous just do it and capture it mood these days.

Ray, that is the same ol snare as always. Ludwig Supraphonic. It's got a new-ish head on it, but I think maybe the difference you're hearing is I used a little more reverb than usual on the drums. I really like the snare sound though so I'll probably stick with that style for a while.

Sounds polished as your mixes tend to be.

I wonder if the guitar might be getting a little buried when everything gets going? I'm noticing that I can't really hear much of what they're doing when the BGVox and everything piles on.

I think the first intro guitar sounds fine, its not really popping out at 14s, but its good as it is, it really pops out at 24s anyway. Would be cool if the phaser/flanger was going a bit more mental maybe.

Great tune, keeper - sounds really 90s for you Greg!

All tones, levels, drums etc sound great to me.
Vocal treatment is great - backings and stuff are all sitting together really nicely. How many vocal tracks are on the "inside of you" (Chorus?) backing set?

Greg,
I like the snare but I - shock horror for my ears - heard a little difference. I'm learning to hear a little more.
Lift the intro solo a little via EQ or whatever magic you have and it's done. Well, actually it's DONE now but it's a matter of druthers isn't it?

Thanks VHS. I'm not getting any buried guitars on my end. But I'm pretty numb to the whole thing now and haven't checked it anywhere else. I need to not listen to it for a few days and see what's up.

Thanks JDude. I think it's four backing vocal tracks. Yup, just checked. Four.

Haha Ray. Learning to hear. I'm just flattered someone has heard enough of my crap to notice anything different about it, and you certainly have. I bet you've probably heard more of my crap than anyone.

So what do you think you hear differently about the snare?

And goddamn....did no one get the hidden meaning of the song? Is it so obvious that it's stupid? Or is it so subtle that it's imperceptible?

You mean its not a confession to being "Greg the Lady-Skinner of Texas"? I've already called the cops, they're coming to take you away in 20 minutes. I told them to look out for all of my amps that you stole off me too.

I'll have a read through the lyrics in a bit and see if I can spot it.

EDIT: Oh, I see - you're struggling with thoughts of transexuality... deep.

A little less selective than Jame Buffalo Bill Grumb then?
I assumed it was a little more Oedipal than that.
What did I hear different - I've not improved enough to tell you that without an A - B comparison Greg.

Lol. I don't remember how selective Buffalo Bill was, but yes, in that vein.

wow ..... great lead .... really really good ..... perfect for the song but also showing some skillz. That work you've been doing on playing lead lines is really paying off. A nice note selection and a relaxed feeling that reflects the confidence you're feeling about your leadwork now ..... I'm impressed. Very nice.

The rest of it ..... GREAT song .... seriously.
And the back and forth with the bvox and the lead vox is perfect and awesome.

The guitar and bass sounds are great, as always, ... drumbs too of course.

What kinda mic pre do you use? The vocal sound is very good.
I guess it's a software compression.

Man, I think this might be the all-around best song, considering every aspect of it, that I've heard from you.

Nice work!

Wow, thanks a lot Boob. I appreciate the compliments. :coolstorybro:

I don't use any outboard mic pre. Just the preamps built in to the Tascam 1800. And I use this compressor plug-in that I think just sounds good. I don't know if it has some kind of hardware emulation, but it sounds good on vocals when I set it to squash the shit out of them. And my room is like a large vocal booth - very dry. I've just figured out how it all works together. Add a hint of a good plate or room reverb or some subtle delay and I'm good to go. And of course, there's also my golden sweet angel voice. :cuckoo: :lollers2:

Hmm, that's kinda true. Maybe this could be a follow up to my "Murder at the Drive In" song. :minernuggs:

Okay buttholes....here's another mix with a twang-surfy-flamenco intro lead. :lollers2:
