I think I have a handle on some lyrics at long last. :smug:

It's going to be about oil - not the politics of it, though.
Extra virgin? Infused truffle? Details man!
The kind of oil that Saudi Arabia is known for, of course!

3-in-one.

OK Bubba, forgive my impertinence, but I've some lyrics started.
Some of your lines are running over and I haven't spent a lot of effort to try to fill them out, but here is a start.
The phrasing is important but I'm not currently able to record my ideas so using time lines so you get the drift...
Intro up to :35, then,

vs-1
:35 -One more night, in the Kasbah
:41 -One more day, on the sea
:47 -One more time, to be lonely
:52 -One less time, to be free,

Ch
1:01 -Breaking out of chains from the 1:03-captors keeping time by clanging 1:06-bells,
clinging on to pleasure 1:09-once re-lized yet sinking into 1:12-hell,
stinging wounds left burning, 1:16-flaming from my eyes,
I sit and 1:19-ponder where the masses journeyed, 1:22-then I realize

vs-2
1:26 -No more time, to be flaccid
No more room, with a view
No more days, in the Kasbah
No more hurt, sinking through
No one left here but you
Seeking truth, or a clue

Ch

vs-3 - come up with something yourself lol!!

This is a very cool tune! Sounds good already. Wifey likes it...came out of the other room to say "what's that? I like it!"

Good work Bubba!

It's not often you see the word "flacid" in a pop lyric, I must say... "Flaccid" is even rarer. Very forward thinking...

Thanks very much, Einstein. :)
I'm thinking of something more specific for the subject to be honest, but those worlds look very usable.I'm sort of making headway on my own but it's not been easy.

Thanks, Bob,. I'm aware of the band but not that familiar that I could name a song. I'll check them out. Did you catch the solo at the end as well as the beginning?

Thanks for the acknowledgement Bubba. Yeah, I didn't notice in an earlier post that you had an oil theme selected, and these words just popped into my head on about the third listen when I got turned on by the tune. It would be unlikely that I would use another person's words in my songs but you had mentioned you might consider someone's lyrics, so there you have it. Again, this was just sort of a sperm of the moment thought that seemed to fit what I was hearing,

Gonna be great when you get this finished, I really enjoy the song! Looking forward to the finished product!

Heya Bubbs, I like this. I'm stoked to hear a finished piece. Hard to say much at this point as it is still gestating. And i still can't figure out this compression thing on my work computer. :mad2:

On it's own as it is now it kind of has a very subtle Treble Spankers feel to it. They are an Instro surf rock band with a middle eastern flavor to it. Check out their record "Hasheeda" Really good stuff. Might be worth a listen to some of it sometime and see if any of their sound could lend itself to your own birthing on this jam. Not to dismiss your own creativity, don't interpret it that way, but there is guitar work in their records that you could draw ideas from.

The drum thing you used? Is it a free thing? I have heard worse canned drums really. Really big real drums would suit it better i think for sure.

Thanks, WJ, I'll look into that band. The drums are free, but if you donate a few dollars you can get rid of the "nag" screen. They're fully programmable, three different velocities when programming but infinitely tweakable after the fact, 16 channel separate outs. They only have the set voices though, but those are pretty good, I think. They have a large library of grooves and fills, too, so it's easy to assemble a scratch track as I have done. When the Loin Fruit is home for the summer I have plans to get the drums done for this. I may have to downsize the kit a little, or commandeer the living room for a few hours.

Very Arabian great melodies and arrangement:) small nit is the drums for me were either too loud, or too dry or something (just sitting in a different space at times). But I did read they are temporary so doesn't matter. At times I found the melody too far back - probably more reverb than I'd use but then I like these things up front (maybe too much the other way lol). Reverb is a real taste thing though so it's all good.
People want something for nothing, they want it right now. Either they can't tell quality or don't care but feel it is important that everyone agrees with them.

Hey, everybody! I finally completed the initial recording sessions for this track. My drummer is back in a week or so, So I hope to get these drums replaced then. In the meantime, here's my first complete mix to bash!

Lyrics below:

Arabian

Out on the dunes
In the dead of night
The life essence quietly flows
Nodding silhouettes clank and whine
Leeching the blood from the stone

Two hundred million years it has simmered
Crushed and pressured by the overburdened mass of ages past
Disturbed and distilled, refined and reborn
To cause the engines of the world to turn

A gleaming icon purrs and roars
One thousand horses lurk in wait
A furnace rages at a cliff
An edifice so out of place
A landscape of frost cocooned within
By a million barrel wall

Two hundred million years it has simmered
Silken blackness pressured by the mass of ages past
Purified and polymerised, recast and reborn
As trinkets destined for a landfill tomb

Out in the Empty Quarter
The bones of the land split and crack
Bedrock hunched, anhydrite seal
Carbonate voids fill with black
Sleeping giant, The Ghawar Anticline
Bleeds out oppression and war

Two hundred million years it has simmered
Crushed by the overburdened rottenness of ages past
Renounce your god, renounce your life, suffer sword and cross
Or carry on within your living tomb

Wanky Solo

Fin

Mate! This sounds much better than the earlier version. I like the vocal performance on this.

I'm listening on my tracking headphones, which are closed back and a bit thicker/darker than my AKGs.

I think the vocal in the verse sounds about right, but in the chorus it isn't sitting quite right, might be a tiny bit loud, but it feels like it has too much verb (or maybe too little - I'll listen later on monitors and tell you) but its not sitting quite right. Greg or Armistice will know what I mean.

You sound a like a combination of Roger Waters and Marc Almond - and I mean that as a compliment.

Really like the song - will download this as a keeper when you've finished it.

Thanks, JD. It's possible that the doubled vocal needs thinning a little and a bit of the slap echo taking off it. I'll bear it in mind when listening again. I may have to retrack one of them to get better unison, too. I think I get what you mean re. the Roger Waters thing - like on Comfortably Numb?

I don't sound camp, do I? :suspicious:

Yeah, a lot of his singing on The Wall actually I was thinking "Run to the bedroom, in the suitcase on the left!"

Haha, no, not camp. Just the way he phrases some words the echo/verb is probably something to do with it too. I don't know if you've heard any of the later Soft Cell albums like The Art of Falling Apart or This Last Night In Sodom, but if you listened to a bit of it you'll probably see what I mean.

Yeah, he is. I've always like Marc Almond. My sister is a lot older than me and moved to London in the early to mid 80s when she was 17 (I think she's about your age) so she was involved in the whole post-punk goth scene so I got into Marc Almond (and loads of other 80s stuff from her)

People always think all of Soft Cell sounds like Tainted Love, but most of it is a lot darker and more interesting. Have you seen the original video for Sex Dwarf? Its fucking mental!!
EDit: Just emailed you a link to it. Its a cross between comedy, surrealism, horror and porn!

Listening on monitors now. Like what you've done with the verse vocal.
The chorus vocal sounds too far away, don't know it is about it, just sounds too verby to me

Right, I've had a little fiddle with it - not going to do too much before the drums get done. Is this an improvement?
