Llano del Rio - acoustic "ensemble" feat. "Bubba"(tm) handmade cajon.

Post by Bubba »

This is a track me and Frank did last year. It's not an "ensemble" as such, as everything except the acoustic guitar and rhythm uke were tracked separately. Frank is home from college this weekend, so I got him to do the cajon track just now.

I'm on Vocals and acoustic guitar. Frank plays rhythm uke, lead uke. cajon, cabasa (x2) and ride cymbal. The timing drifts very slightly in places, but I think the whole thing works quite well, and I'm very pleased with the cajon!

Second mix with more cajon as suggested.

I think it sounds pretty good. I want more cajon. Get it up more. The rest sounds very good to me.

I've got the 2nd one.

Vocal sounds great. Bass on that Cajon is really good, a really deep thud.
I just think it could do with a tiny bit more snare.

Still think it sounds like a Welsh town though.

Snare increased, just cos you keep harping on.

Llano del Rio was an experimental self-sufficient commune, that eventually failed. Interesting story.

Pearblossom is a stretch of road down there that is too small for the density of vehicles using it. There are many fatalities on it - hence "It'll kill ya, just like possum".

Llano del rio is that singer who's known for sounding bored and disaffected, right? :D

Mix 2 sounds pretty good. I might turn down the shaker on the left a little. It gets a little grating.

Nice Cajon work.

Is good.
A nice Mescalleros feel.
A mob of Australians set up a commune in Argentina imaginatively named "New Australia" in 1893.
Cheers

Sounds nice. How does one mic a cajon?

If you look in the Bubba's Cajon build thread, my miking technique is in there. :)

Wow! Very cool! Kind of refreshing to hear something not banging away at the senses. I couldn't come up with a single nit. Enjoyed it but I don't think I'll be singing it in the shower. OK, maybe... ;)

Thanks very much, 7String! I feel guilty that I wasn't more constructive with my comment on yours, now  I WAS joking, though. (mostly  )

I tweaked the mix yesterday but haven't posted it up, yet - mostly I crunched the Cajon snare with compression to make the hits more consistent and bring out the snare. It seems to have worked very well. Oh, and VHS - I turned down the left -hand cabasa. It WAS a bit irritating, actually.
