A year or so back, I did a song for a They Might Be Giants Tribute.
It looks like they're doing another one, so I am once again taking a weird nerd song that was already too fast and speeding it up even more. (I did assure the organizer that I would get the song below 85 seconds)

Really nice sound. I think the lead vocal is spot on, but several other things seem too dark to me. The rhythm guitar on the left, the background vocals, and the synth seem just kind of stuffed down behind the perfectly clear and bright vocal.

On second listen, maybe the background vocals aren't too low, but could just be a little brighter. If you can brighten up the band a bit while keeping the silky warmth that is there already, I think it would be perfect.

Vocal is great. Guitars are pretty dark and fuzzy, but I guess they're supposed to be like that.

Yep, fuzzy is definitely intentional. Dark, maybe not.

I tried to brighten things up a bit (at least the bgvox).
The right-hand guitars and bgvox are also louder.

Any feedback is still welcome, tho I won't be able to make any mix changes until tuesday or so.

Yes, the right ones too. I just didn't notice them as much because they were quieter. But now you've done a new mix, so on to that. The brightness is good, but now I think the vocal is buried a bit. Fix that and I think you've got it.

mix two is better. The guitars might be a touch too loud now, but not much, maybe also bring the bg vox up a tiny bit. I think you're just about there though.

HA! Dude. Much Props. I like what you have done to this tune. I kind of like yours way better than theirs.

I only listened to the 2nd mix. I am still kind of picking up a that the right guitar is kind of a bit lower than the left but that i think could be more due the it being far more fuzz scratch tone than the left and it just sort of breaks up or fades off way faster.

Great cover man. You should share a link to the tribute when it is available. I would toss a few coins at that.

I'll try to find a day this week to get some tweaks in.

All the strings are real. Bass level is always a little tricky because it's technically 3-basses: one down-tuned fretless (the walking line), and two combination bass/guitars playing rhythm. I can probably bump the main bass line up a bit.

It's one of their early albums before they knew any production or had a real band, so probably!

I'd still like to hear a tiny bit more backing vocals - this sounds great though and 'cos its so short I don't mind listening to it loads.

I've just listened to the original for the first time - yours is much better. I don't think I'll listen to TMBG again!
