What powers your speakers?

Vocals too high in the mix? Too low? Not even sure? Snare sounds wonky? And how do I make everything louder than everything else? Step in, step in, for your mix Viagra from people who know the secrets.

Most of the lower powered ones are stereo.

OK, I vaguely remember needing more than one, but I think I'm mixing up stereo with low end /high end, crossovers, etc....

Don't know about the Crown, but most good stuff gives you the option of stereo or bridged mono, which doubles the power output.
Key with any setup is to have the amp put out enough CLEAN power, so you're not running a clipped signal into the monitors.
Oh, and if using a reciever, dont forget to have the tones set flat, and that damn loudness button off!

But then again, and this is specifically targeted to Rami, what the fuck you care? :D
Your stuff sounds and translates great. So it would seem you got the cat by the scruff of the neck. :D

Actually, I have to leave mine on. If not, I'd be boosting bass like it's nobody's business. On my system, "Loudness" on seems to be flat. Loudness off is a major bass cut.

Why does everyone keep saying that? : :cuckoo:  :eep:

I appreciate the compliments, but if I never looked for ways to improve....I wouldn't improve. As long as my stuff doesn't sound like "Dark Side of Abbey Road", there's still room for improvement. My stuff might sound "good-ish", but I want to strive to sound "perfect", and hopefully one day that will lead me to sound "Very good". But I'm not there yet. I also realize that my talent, or lack thereof, plays as much a part as my equipment. But if I can take care of the equipment part of the equation, then I know the rest is up to me. :)

I use powered monitors dude, M-Audio BX8's, IIRC 1st generation, pretty shitty actually, but there's no need in better monitors here as I only have my room half-treated...Eventually, when I get another pad bass traps then better monitors...

You probably don't wanna hear this, but new/better monitors probably won't change a lot for you, because your mixes translate well on everything...It's all what you get used to in my opinion...I used a decent Kenwood home stereo for a few years & when I got actual monitors, they helped a little, but not a great deal...I was really used to that stereo, so I had a pretty good idea on most things...Again, it's really what you get used to dude...

I'm very happy with my monitors. I just wasn't sure if a power amp would make a difference.

Yes it will. I noticed a huge change in sensitivity, headroom, transients, clean-ness when changing amps.

I went from a 60 wpc hafler to a 100 wpc and 200 wpc bryston amps. And the hafler was no slouch.

I'm powering ns10s with much more than the recommend wattage and they love it. Lots of clean power

But overall, what I was saying to you, was if it works no need to tinker.

That's what I was thinking. I think I might only notice it at loud volumes, though, so I'll have to decide if it's worth it. I almost never listen to anything really loud any more. I mix at moderate to low levels, and I enjoy music more at moderately loud levels, but not loud enough to need a shit ton of juice.

I know what you're saying. But to me, it depends what we mean by "it works". Does my music sound bad? Maybe not. Is it as good as it can sound? Definitely not, there's always room for improvement.

New power amp won't make THE difference, but it's never just one thing. I want to sound as good as possible, and at this point that comes down to little things and details. A small improvement here, and little upgrade there, etc....

Nope. It affects it at ALL volumes. Personally I keep it lower in volume. The "shit ton of juice " is just headroom.
Think of it like a car, you got 500 hp and your cruising around town in 3rd gear. Its purring along not breaking a sweat, you step in it and it goes like a bat out of hell.

Well with the power of an amp you'd have to drive it really loud before it got into clipping. It just stays clean.

The only time I've blown tweets on my Yammies is when I underpowered them. The smp is working much harder to get the spl level, and then the tweeters get a clipped signal and then boom! They blow. Ns10 tweeters are expensive AND hard to get.
I learnt my lesson. Since 'overpowering' them, I've not blown one in years!

Even at low volumes I've found it to just work better.:D

Thanx R. That's good to know.

The other reason I'm a little reluctant to switch to a power amp is because I have my interface going into this receiver, but I also have my TV going into it, as well as the fact that it gives me AM and FM radio. I also have a second set of speakers going out into my gym. Don't know if I can do all that with a standard P.A. power amp.

Well, me, I wouldnt get a standard PA power amp. Most of the good amps for monitoring come from the high end audio world.
Hafler, Bryston Some Yamaha stuff, NAD.

You're setup has a lot of advantages. For one you can reference a lot of different commercial sources. Being able to compare TV ,radio , cds records etc. Has benefits.

No, you can't do any of that with a power amp. You can only feed it a signal that it will make louder. If you wanted to do all that, you would need a mixer...and another power amp to run the speakers in the gym, that you sent signal to through an aux send.

My NS10's are powered by a kit power amp that I have owned forever, did a couple of small earthing mods but nothing really. My Main monitors, Mission Pro's are powered by a hafler DH-200.
