Master Compressor?

Vocals too high in the mix? Too low? Not even sure? Snare sounds wonky? And how do I make everything louder than everything else? Step in, step in, for your mix Viagra from people who know the secrets.

Somewhere along the way I started using 2 x GClip and then Event Horizon on top of each other, so similar concept - someone must have suggested it somewhere, as I certainly didn't think it up. I'll have a listen tomorrow ray with luck. My ears are pining for silence right now.
What's GClip? I use Event Horizon on your recommendation, but that's it on my master buss.
http://www.gvst.co.uk/gclip.htm just a freebie clipping plug.. quite handy.

Greg,
Which limiter do you stack?
I used a variety as I figured I'd possibly find something interesting/useful along the way. As I can't really "hear" the good colouration or affects of these tings I had trouble deciding which to run with and just stacked all that I could vaguely manipulate.
I'll drag out another current project and Gerg it with a stack of your recco & "see" if I can hear what's going on.
Cheers

I mostly use a Waves L3 or Voxengo Elephant.

I'd suggest you dump the Classic Master Limiter. I used to use it, and it works, but it's not that good. It gets ugly in a hurry. Try some of the stock Reaper limiters instead.

Here's another attempt at using my ears BUT not having any confodence in them.
The Mp3 attached has the intro to a song I've been working on. The music is complete and the mix is pretty well sorted as far as I could go becasue I'm waiting on a vocal to be completed.
Whilst waiting I'm TRYING to listen for nuanced changes a little better than my cloth ears currently allow.
The 1st part of the file is the intro with a little EQ and REAPER masterbus compression.
The 2nd run through is the EQ NO comp and a series of Reaper limiters all set to kick in at -1.
The third, and final, has the EQ, a few of the same limiters and a final limiter set at -1.5.
To my ears the middle one sounds best but I don't trust my ears.
Any thoughts?
