Gating Vocals

Post by JD01 »

Was discussing this with Bubba earlier.

Does anyone else put a gate on their vocal tracks? I started putting one first in the chain, only really low down to cut out the headphone bleed and a bit of breath noise.

Basically, I forgot my tracking cans this weekend (left them in Bristol) so I had to nip out on Friday evening and buy a shitty pair. I gaffer taped socks to the back of them but they weren't quite cutting it. They were also fucking uncomfortable.

I usually manually trim out that kind of stuff. I've never been super happy with the results I got gating.

I do this as well. Chop it up and put some mellow fades on each cut in and out.
